What Is Marriage? Defining the Meaning of Marriages

What is marriage?  Marriage is a lifetime commitment not only for the couples involved, but also a commitment to God. It means that you need to secure and take good care of your marriage to prevent it from being broken. In this modern time, a marriage license is really just a piece of paper that can be torn apart when couples are not happy with the marriage. If you cannot live without each other, then that is the time when you need to offer a proposal to spend the rest of your lives together.

It is important for every couple to know and understand the definition of marriage is and how it differs from the past and today. Marriage is very different today than what it used to be. In the past, marriage meant that you needed to get betrothed at the right age, and you are saved your virginity for the person whom you are going to marry. Today, people who are getting married are getting younger and younger. As for virginity, many people are no longer virgins before their wedding, but there are still some brides and grooms that remain celibate until their wedding day.

In the past, before two people became engaged in marriage, the courtship could last for years . . . but today, in many cases, you just need to count days. Young lovers in the past waited until they were stable enough with jobs before they got married, but today some high school students even have babies. Marriage is sacred, and should only be entered into by two people who are genuinely in love with each other and want to be with each other for a lifetime.
